This standard specifies the terms and definitions, test principles, sample preparation, test equipment, test procedures and test reports of the breaking tensile test method for steel wire ropes.

This standard is applicable to the determination of breaking tension of various types of steel wire rope and steel strand products. If the relevant product standards provide otherwise, they shall be implemented in accordance with their provisions.
